Homework: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- When is homework due?
- Homework exercise due dates, and all significant course dates, are listed
in the course schedule page. Note that homework
is always due before the class time on the due date.
- What is a "feedback form"?
- The last step of each homework exercise is to fill out
an online form, called a "feedback form." This is the
way you tell me that your work is ready to be graded. I look at
work and
grade
it only
after I receive the form. Feedback forms for homework exercises expire
at the end of the day (midnight) after the due date; you cannot
submit
the
form
after
it expires.
- You say
that homework exercises are due on the due date, yet the feedback
form expires the next day. Does this mean that the work is really after
the due date?
- No. Technically, the work is due on the due date, but
I give you a grace period. I expect that you will do the work
before class, so that if you run into a problem, including a technical
problem (that stops
you from uploading or submitting the form, for example), you
can raise the issue in class (or, in an online course, you can email
me) and there will
be enough time to solve the problem before the form expires.
- I tried to upload my work to the server
just before the feedback form expired, but a technical problem (bad Internet
connection, server error, computer
crash, etc.) stopped me. Now the form has expired. Can I still
get full credit?
- No. This is the risk you take when you wait until the last minute to do the assignment; this is why there is a grace period. You will lose 2 points for not submitting the form on time. (See previous question.)

- I did my homework on time, but
I forgot to submit the feedback form on time. Can I still get full credit?
- No. You will lose at least 2 points for not submitting the form on time. Submitting the feedback
form is a part of finishing the exercise; if you didn't submit the form,
you didn't finish the assignment.
- I've already submitted the feedback
form, but I want to make a change in my work and re-submit the form.
Can I do that?
- Yes, as long as the form has not expired. The last
form submission received will be the one that counts.
- I made a change to my homework
after submtting the feedback form, but I cannot re-submit the form
because it has expired. What happens in this
instance?
- If I had graded your work before your changes were made,
your grade will not reflect the changes. If I had not already looked at
your work to grade it, then when I grade it I will see your changes.
- I finished my homework exercise,
but I didn't upload it to the server. Can I email it to you or bring
it in as a printout or on a
disk and still get credit?
- No. Uploading is an integral part of every
exercise. If your exercise doesn't work on the server, you have not finished
the assignment.
- I indicated on the feedback
form that my grade intention was for full credit, but I only got partial
credit.
Why?
- Just because you indicated that you think you should
get full credit does not necessarily mean that you will get full credit.
You will only get the points you asked for if you earned the points. If
you did not follow all the directions, or if you did not
follow the proper file naming conventions,
or if your work does not validate, for example, you will not get full credit.
If you cannot figure out why you lost points, email me or meet with me and I will go over
it with you.
- I asked a homework question in
the comments box of a feedback form but never heard back from you.
Do you read the feedback form comments?
- Yes, I read all feedback form
comments, but I do not reply to them. As it says below the form's
comments box: "Comments
only; if you have a question, post it in the help forum." I
reply to homework questions in the help forum, not via e-mail.
